PALO ALTO, Calif. (Mar. 25) Karen
Dickson clocked the best 10,000-meter time in 16 years by a
Seattle Pacific University runner and Danielle Ayers-Stamper
posted two top-five all-time marks to highlight a half-dozen
national qualifying performances at the Stanford Invitational
track and field meet Friday.
Dickson (So., El Dorado Hills, Ca./Oak Ridge)
smashed her own Great Northwest Athletic Conference record by 86
seconds in finishing runner-up to Michigan States Caitlin
Kelly. Dicksons automatic qualifying time of 34 minutes,
40.54 seconds is second only to Bente Moes SPU and NCAA
Division II record of 33:05.80. Kelly crossed the line in
34:17.63.
Ayers-Stamper (Jr., LaCrosse, Wa.) bolted into
the finals of the 100 hurdles in 14.08 seconds, which ranks No. 3
all-time and also broke her conference standard. The finals are
Saturday. She achieved another personal best in the long jump,
covering 19 feet, 6- 1/2 inches to finish fifth. That ranks No. 4
on the school list.
In all, the Falcons erased three league records
and hit six NCAA provisional qualifying marks, including five new
ones. Lauren Ver Mulm (Fr., Mount Vernon, Wa.) uncorked the
javelin, throwing for a GNAC record 154-2 to take fourth place
among a largely Division I field of competitors.
Amy Harris (Jr., Corvallis, Or./Crescent
Valley) pole vaulted an outdoor PR of 11-11 3/4, adding her name
to the provisional list and placing fourth. Ally Studer (Sr.,
Redmond,Wa.) cleared 11-5 3/4 and was ninth.
On the mens side, Ryan Jewell (Fr.,
Olympia, Wa./Olympia) ran the 200 in 22.41a time which ranks
No. 5 all-time. Jewell also finished the 100 in 11.30.
In Saturdays action, Ayers-Stamper will
high-jump and run the hurdles final. Paul Mach (Sr., Seattle,
Wa./Kings) and Doug Gibson (So., Yakima, Wa./Riverside
Christian) will also race.
