Dickson, Ayers-Stamper, Ver Mulm Break GNAC Track Records at Stanford Invite
March 25, 2005

PALO ALTO, Calif. (Mar. 25) – Karen Dickson clocked the best 10,000-meter time in 16 years by a Seattle Pacific University runner and Danielle Ayers-Stamper posted two top-five all-time marks to highlight a half-dozen national qualifying performances at the Stanford Invitational track and field meet Friday.

Dickson (So., El Dorado Hills, Ca./Oak Ridge) smashed her own Great Northwest Athletic Conference record by 86 seconds in finishing runner-up to Michigan State’s Caitlin Kelly. Dickson’s automatic qualifying time of 34 minutes, 40.54 seconds is second only to Bente Moe’s SPU and NCAA Division II record of 33:05.80. Kelly crossed the line in 34:17.63.

Ayers-Stamper (Jr., LaCrosse, Wa.) bolted into the finals of the 100 hurdles in 14.08 seconds, which ranks No. 3 all-time and also broke her conference standard. The finals are Saturday. She achieved another personal best in the long jump, covering 19 feet, 6- 1/2 inches to finish fifth. That ranks No. 4 on the school list.

In all, the Falcons erased three league records and hit six NCAA provisional qualifying marks, including five new ones. Lauren Ver Mulm (Fr., Mount Vernon, Wa.) uncorked the javelin, throwing for a GNAC record 154-2 to take fourth place among a largely Division I field of competitors.

Amy Harris (Jr., Corvallis, Or./Crescent Valley) pole vaulted an outdoor PR of 11-11 3/4, adding her name to the provisional list and placing fourth. Ally Studer (Sr., Redmond,Wa.) cleared 11-5 3/4 and was ninth.

On the men’s side, Ryan Jewell (Fr., Olympia, Wa./Olympia) ran the 200 in 22.41–a time which ranks No. 5 all-time. Jewell also finished the 100 in 11.30.

In Saturday’s action, Ayers-Stamper will high-jump and run the hurdles final. Paul Mach (Sr., Seattle, Wa./King’s) and Doug Gibson (So., Yakima, Wa./Riverside Christian) will also race.
