SEATTLE (Mar. 9) Seattle Pacific
University center Jason Chivers, the Falcons' scoring and
rebounding leader, was today voted to the Daktronics all-West
Region second team for men's basketball.
Chivers (Sr., 6-8, Los Angeles, Ca.), who was
voted first team all-Great Northwest Athletic Conference earlier
this week, averaged 10.2 rebounds, and led the team in scoring
(15.9), field-goal percentage (.588) and blocked shots (1.14) in
the regular season. He posted a league-best 11 double-doubles.
Chivers also made the second team last season.
Led by Chivers, the Falcons (20-8) return to
the NCAA Division II tournament for the first time in three years.
They meet Cal Poly Pomona in Friday afternoon's opening game in
Bellingham.
Only three of the first and second team
selections hail from GNAC teams. Brad Oleson of Alaska Fairbanks
was the region's player of the year. Also making the first team
was Grant Dykstra of Western Washington.
Rounding out the first team are Jake Chrisman
of BYU Hawaii, Osadonor Esene of Hawaii Hilo and Jeff Bonds of Cal
Poly Pomona.
The region includes teams, which compete in the
PacWest Conference, California Collegiate Athletic Association and
the GNAC plus independent Grand Canyon. The All-American team will
be announced later this month.
