Williams, Chivers Pace Falcon Men in Comeback Win, 82-73
February 26, 2005

Season and Game Stats

SEATTLE (Feb. 26) Chad Williams scored a career-high 21 points and Jason Chivers added 20 as 21st-ranked Seattle Pacific University rallied from a 9-point second-half deficit to beat Western Oregon 82-73 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference game Saturday night at Brougham Pavilion.

The victory, the Falcons¹ 12th in 13 at home, improved their chances of securing one of the eight NCAA Division II tournament berths in the West Region with two games still to play.

Jordan Lee (Sr., 6-1, Tacoma, Wa./Life Christian), who along with Chivers and Ralph Steele (Sr., 6-2, N. Birmingham, Al.) was playing his final home game, scored eight of his 10 points in the final seven minutes, hitting three key baskets.

Lee¹s layup on a feed from Tony Binetti (Jr., 6-1, Enumclaw, Wa.) put SPU (11-5, 19-6) ahead for good, 60-59, with 6:36 remaining. He later connected on back-to-back buckets, pushing the gap to 68-62 with 3:51 left. The Wolves (9-7, 15-10) got no closer than four the rest of the way.

Chivers (Sr., 6-8, Los Angeles, Ca.) put the finishing touches on the win, taking a court-length pass from Steele and scoring a layup with 12 seconds to go. He was a perfect 9 for 9 from the field and also led all players with nine rebounds.

Williams (Jr., 6-8, Burlington, Wa.), who also had seven rebounds, had four points during a 12-2 run which erased Western Oregon¹s 55-46 advantage. Dustin Bremerman (So., 6-4, Yakima, Wa./Eisenhower) capped the spree with a 3-point for a 58-57 lead.

Western Oregon was led by the 22 points of Dave Brautigam . Evan Kieling had 19 and Kevin Tyner 18. Kieling hit two shots as WOU reeled off nine unanswered points to charge in front, 55-46.

Seattle Pacific, bouncing back from cold shooting in a 71-69 home loss to Humboldt State Thursday, converted 54 percent of its field goals (26-48).

Williams hit 8 of 10 free throws and Binetti was 11-12 and also had eight assists.

The Falcons play their final two regular season games on the road, beginning Thursday at Northwest Nazarene.
