SEATTLE (Feb. 23) With four games
remaining in the regular season, Seattle Pacific University finds
itself well-positioned to host the women's basketball NCAA
Division II West Regional for the third year in a row.
The Falcons (21-2) remain No. 1 in the West.
However, Saturday night they face the region's No. 2 team, Western
Washington. The top team in the final rankings next month has the
right to host the regional tournament Mar. 11-14.
The SPU men (18-6) fell one spot for the second
week in a row, slipping to No. 4, behind Hawaii Hilo (23-3),
Western Washington (18-5) and Cal Poly Pomona (18-5). Hilo has
just one regular season game remaining.
The final poll in March will determine which
six women's teams join the GNAC and CCAA regular-season champions
and which five men's teams join the GNAC, PacWest and CCAA
champions in the eight-team regional field. The conference
champions receive automatic berths.
