SEATTLE (Feb. 9) -- Seattle Pacific University
remained first and second, respectively, in this week's women's
and men's NCAA Division II West Regional rankings.
The Falcons (19-1) are No. 1 among women's
teams, a position they have held for the past two years. They go
after their 18th straight win and 20th overall at Saint Martin's
Thursday night. The Saints are No. 7 in the West. Western
Washington, the only other Great Northwest Athletic Conference
team listed, is No. 2.
For the second week, Hawaii Hilo is ranked
first in the men's poll, ahead of Seattle Pacific (17-4). However,
the poll was conducted prior to the Vulcans' 105-95 loss Tuesday
night at Montana State-Billings. That loss dropped the Vulcans to
20-3 and into second-place in the PacWest in back of regionally
ninth-ranked BYU-Hawaii. SPU visits Western Washington, the No. 3
team in the region, Saturday.
Alaska Fairbanks also fell two places in the
men's poll to seventh after also splitting a pair of games.
The final poll in March will help determine
which six women's teams join the GNAC and CCAA regular-season
champions and which five men's teams join the GNAC, PacWest and
CCAA champions in the eight-team regional field. The conference
champions receive automatic berths.
