Seattle Pacific Women Find Themselves One Notch From Top
January 25, 2005

SEATTLE (Jan. 25) Moving up one spot for the second week in a row, Seattle Pacific University is now just one step from the top of the NCAA Division II women's basketball rankings at No. 2.

The Falcons (15-1) took advantage of a loss by Washburn (Ks.) to achieve their highest ranking since finishing the 2003-04 regular season at No. 1. Drury (Mo.), which eliminated SPU from the Elite Eight, remains No. 1 for the second week in a row. Seattle Pacific and Shaw (NC), which is No. 3, both received first-place votes.

Seattle Pacific will face another ranked team in its next game. Western Washington is No. 17 and hosts the Great Northwest Athletic Conference contest Thursday in Bellingham.

Other West region teams listed include Cal Poly Pomona (No. 18), and Chico State (No. 20).

Incidentally, Seattle Pacific is the only Div. II member which can claim both its women's and men's teams are among their respective top 10. The SPU men are No. 8 this week.
