January 15, 2005

Complete Meet Results

SEATTLE (Jan. 15) Karen Dickson of Seattle Pacific University smashed the school and Great Northwest Athletic Conference records in winning the women's 5000-meter run at the Husky Indoor Preview track & field meet Saturday at Dempsey Indoor.

Dickson (So., El Dorado Hills, Ca.) was one of three Falcons to post NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks in the winter opener. Joining her were Danielle Ayers-Stamper (Jr., LaCrosse, Wa.) in the 60 hurdles and Allie Hedges (Jr., Richland, Wa.) in the pole vault.

Coming off a fourth-place finish at cross country nationals in the fall, Dickson continued her stellar string pf performances, handily beating Sarah Leonard of Club Northwest by 37 in 17 minutes, 20.73 seconds. Dickson's old school mark was 19:31.0 and Alicen Maier of Central Washington set the GNAC standard of 18:16.7 in 2003.

Ayers-Stamper finished sixth in the hurdles final and had a best time of 8.97 seconds, improving her own SPU and GNAC marks of 9.02 set in 2003. She also tied for second in the high jump at 5 feet, 3 3/4 inches. Hedges was sixth in the pole vault with a best clearance of 11-10.

The men's highlights were provided by Ryan Jewell (Fr., Olympia, Wa.), who was third in the 200 (23.27) and sixth in the 60 dash, establishing a new SPU record in 7.25.

The next meet for the full SPU team is the Washington Invitational Jan. 28-29.
