Complete Game Stats

ARCATA, Ca. (Jan. 6) -- Amy Taylor scored a game-high 18 points to lead No. 4- ranked Seattle Pacific University to its ninth consecutive victory, 70-49 over Humboldt State in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women’s basketball game Thursday night at East Gym.

The Falcons (3-0 GNAC, 11-1) won their 45th straight game in league play. The Lumberjacks (0-3, 3-9) lost their fifth straight overall.

Taylor (Sr., Shoreline, Wa./Shorewood) led another balanced attack for SPU, which put the game away midway through the second half. After the ‘Jacks cut a nine-point halftime deficit down to five, five different Falcons scored during a 15-2 run that put SPU up by 18, 54-36, with 12:12 remaining in the game. The Jacks never got closer than 15 the rest of the way and SPU led by at least 20 throughout the final 5:35.

Taylor shot 7-for-13 from the field, including 4-for-10 from three-point range as the only Falcon to score in double figures. She also had six rebounds, two assists and three steals. Carli Smith (Jr., Spokane, Wa./Valley Christian) grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds, eight of them on the offensive end, to go along with eight points and three assists.

After Humboldt scored the first bucket of the game, SPU went on an 11-2 run behind a pair of threes from Taylor in the first 5:30 of action to go up 11-4 early. The Jacks bounced back and recaptured a two-point lead on three different occasions, their last lead coming with 4:23 left in the half. SPU fired back with a 13-1 run to capture its first double-digit lead of the game, 37-27, just before the halftime whistle.

Michelle Beaumont (Sr., Bellingham, Wa./Sehome) chipped in nine points, three rebounds and two assist in the win. Autumn Fielding (So., Kennewick, Wa.) led all reserves with nine points and three assists. SPU’s bench outscored Humboldt’s 25-2.

Jenna Washington had 13 points, 11 rebounds, four blocks and three steals for Humboldt. Nicole Lynch scored a team-high 14 points in the loss. Denisha McCoy chipped in 11 points.

The Falcons shot an uncharacteristically low 38 percent for the game, but held the Jacks to just 28 percent, including a dismal 19 percent (5-27) in the second half. Seattle Pacific also had a 51-31 advantage in rebounding.

SPU next travels to Monmouth, Or. to take on Western Oregon Saturday at 2 p.m.
