Binetti Spurs Seattle Pacific to Sixth Straight Win, 90-80
December 19, 2004

LAS VEGAS (Dec. 19) Behind Tony Binetti's career-high 25 points and six free throws by Chad Williams in the final 80 seconds, Seattle Pacific University won its sixth straight men's basketball game, 90-80 over previously unbeaten Central Missouri State at the High Desert Classic Sunday at McDermott Center.

The Falcons (8-2) also got 18 points from Dustin Bremerman (So., 6-4, Yakima, Wa./Eisenhower) and hit 57 percent of their field goals, including nine of 15 three-pointers. It was the fourth time they have scored 90 or more points during the win streak.

Binetti (Jr., 6-1, Enumclaw, Wa.) scored four points and dished his seventh assist in the final four minutes as SPU staved off one last charge by the Mules (7-1). After a 12-point lead dwindled to just one, Binetti found Jason Chivers (Sr., 6-8, Los Angeles, Ca.) underneath for a layup and a 79-76 lead with 2:06 left.

A combination of six consecutive missed shots by Central Missouri and Seattle Pacific connecting on 10 straight free throws enabled the Falcons to pull away in the final 1:20. In addition to Williams (Jr., 6-8, Burlington, Wa.), Binetti and Bremerman also converted a pair from the foul line.

Binetti drilled a trey and then drove for another basket at the close of the first half for a 36-31 lead. Another Binetti three-pointer figured in a 9-2 spurt which built the margin to 57-45 with 12:09 remaining. He made each of his four three-point shots.

The cold-shooting (37 percent) Mules out-rebounded SPU 40-30 and committed five fewer turnovers. They were led by he 16 points of Corey Brown.

Led by Binetti, the Falcon guards totaled 49 points on 15-18 shooting. They were especially hot from outside the arc, hitting all eight of their combined three-point attempts. Ralph Steele (Sr., 6-2, N. Birmingham, Al.) came off the bench for 11 points and Jordan Lee (Sr., 6-1, Tacoma, Wa./Life Christian) added 10.

SPU, with its longest win streak in three years, resumes play Dec. 29-30 when it hosts the Oak Harbor Freight Lines Holiday Classic at Brougham Pavilion. The Falcons face Wisconsin Parkside in the first round.
