SEATTLE (Dec. 10) Shannon Lovejoy,
Jennifer Hull and Michelle Everson, all members of the
nationally-ranked Seattle Pacific University women's soccer team,
were voted All-America by the National Soccer Coaches Association
of America (NSCAA).
Lovejoy (Jr., Seattle, Wa./Seattle Prep), a
midfielder who was earlier named the Great Northwest Athletic
Conference player of the year, was selected to the first team. She
was a second team member in 2003. Lovejoy scored seven goals and
had nine assists.
The top goalkeeper in NCAA Division II during
the regular season, Hull (Sr., Eugene, Or./Sheldon) was voted to
the second team after making third team last season. She finished
with a goals-against average of 0.38 and 10 shutouts.
Everson (Jr., Tacoma, Wa./Stadium) set an SPU
and GNAC record with 13 assists and played a key role in the
Falcons ranking among the national leaders in team defense. She
was named to the third team. Opponents managed to score only eight
goals in 22 games.
In 2003, Lovejoy and Hull became the first
All-Americans in the Seattle Pacific program's brief existence.
Since beginning play in 2001, the Falcons have won three GNAC
titles and earned two trips to the NCAA tournament. They finished
19-1-2 and were ranked No. 1 in the nation at the end of the
regular season.
Franklin Pierce (NH), Truman State (Mo.) and
Barry (Fl.) were the only other teams with three selections
altogether, and no other Far West Region school was represented.
