Wood Pumps in 24 As Falcon Women Win Fourth in Row

SAN FRANCISCO (Dec. 10) ­ Mandy Wood pumped in a career-high 24 points to pace 5th-ranked Seattle Pacific University to a 77-44 win over Sonoma State in a non-conference women¹s basketball game Friday night.

The Falcons (6-1) also got 12 points off the bench from Rachel Strand (So., 6-2, Shoreline, Wa./King¹s) and 11 from Michelle Beaumont (Sr., 5-11, Bellingham, Wa.) to win their fourth in a row.

Wood (Jr., 5-6, Port Angeles, Wa.) scored four of her 12 first-half points and had two assists during a 13-2 run which put SPU comfortably ahead, 23-8. She then added 10 points in the first 8:25 of the second period as the gap grew to 26 points at 57-31 following a 19-6 burst.

SPU shot 54 percent from the floor (31-57) and Wood finished 9-12 from the floor and made 4-7 three-pointers.

Brittney Kroon (Jr., 6-4, Wasilla, Ak.) blocked seven shots and Sonoma State (0-6) managed to make just 25 percent from the field, including 5-30 after halftime. It was the third time this season that an opposing team was held under 50 points.

Carli Smith (Jr., 5-11, Spokane, Wa./Valley Christian) pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds and Seattle Pacific controlled the boards, 44-28.

The Falcons face San Francisco State Saturday night at 8.
