Chivers, Steele Power SPU Men Past PLU, 95-51
December 10, 2004

SEATTLE (Dec. 10) Jason Chivers scored 23 of his season-high 25 points in the first half and Ralph Steele added 19 as Seattle Pacific University overpowered Pacific Lutheran 95-51 for its fourth win in a row in a non-conference men¹s basketball game Friday night at Brougham Pavilion.

The Falcons (6-2), off to their best start in four years, have won their first four home games for the first time since 1996-97. They shot 56 percent to finish with their largest winning margin in five seasons and the second-largest in their 32-game series with the Lutes (2-7).

Chivers (Sr., 6-8, Los Angeles, Ca.) scored at will in the first half, getting the Falcons¹ first 11 by converting six consecutive field goals, five from close range. After a rest on the bench, he reentered and fueled an 11-1 run. Chivers accounted for 10 of the points, the last free throw making it 40-19.

Steele (Sr., 6-2, N. Birmingham, Al.) came off the bench to stroked three treys and score 17 points in the second half as the lead continued to grow. All 11 players in uniform scored for Seattle Pacific, which was missing starting point guard Tony Binetti, sidelined with a minor ankle sprain.

Jeff Knudson (Jr., 6-7, Mukilteo, Wa./Kamiak)hitting three treysand Drew Matzen (So., 6-4, Bothell, Wa./Lynnwood) each added nine points.

The Lutes lost their third in a row. Their top scorer was Jake Liscomb with seven points. Pacific Lutheran¹s total was a season-low and they shot just 27 percent, including 3-18 three pointers.

The Falcons hit nine times from outside the arc, including 6-12 in the second half. Chivers, who played just seven minutes and took three field-goal attempts in the second half, grabbed nine rebounds to give his team a 49-39 advantage. He shot 10-15 and nine of his baskets were scored from inside the lane.

SPU resumes play next Saturday (Dec. 18) against Cal State Bakersfield at the High Desert Classic in Las Vegas.
