Steele Helps Falcon Men Bounce Back With Convincing Win
November 27, 2004

HILO, Hi. (Nov. 27) Ralph Steele came off the bench to score 16 points and spark a decisive second-half push by Seattle Pacific University in a 90-69 win over Shippensburg (Pa.) in the final round of the Hilo Shootout Saturday at Afook-Chinen Auditorium.

Jordan Lee (Sr., 6-1, Tacoma, Wa./Life Christian) led the Falcons (3-2) with 20 points while Jason Chivers (Sr., 6-8, Los Angeles, Wa.) finished with 17 points and 15 rebounds.

Seattle Pacific bounced back from a frigid shooting performance in Friday's loss to host Hawaii Hilo, hitting 58 percent from the field. Steele (Sr., 6-2, N. Birmingham, Al.) made 6 of 7 shots in his 16 minutes of action and Lee accounted for five of his team's 10 three-pointers.

The Falcons led virtually the entire game and by as much as 13 in the first half, but it was not until the final 11 minutes that they put away the Raiders (2-3). Tony Binetti (Jr., 6-1, Enumclaw, Wa.) and Steele each had two baskets during an 11-2 burst for a 65-50 advantage.

Shippensburg cut the lead to 10 with 4:06 to play, only to see SPU score on six of its final seven possessions, finishing the game on a 13-2 run. Steele converted a three-point play during the spree and Chivers added four points. He helped given his team a 39-31 edge on the boards.

Dustin Bremerman (So., 6-4, Yakima, Wa./Eisnehower) had 14 points for SPU, which shot 68 percent in the second period to the Raiders' 32 percent. Seth Scott paced Shippensburg with 20 points.

SPU returns home to open Great Northwest Athletic Conference play Thursday against Seattle University.
