Vulcans Hand Falcons Men Heavy Loss, 84-70

HILO, Hi. (Nov. 26) ­ Brian Graham and Alex Cabagnot combined for 47 points and host Hawaii Hilo dealt Seattle Pacific University an 84-70 defeat in the second round of the Hilo Shootout late Friday night at Afook-Chinen Auditorium.

Mike Bushmaker (Jr.,6-7, Yakima, Wa./Eisenhower) scored a career-high 16 points for the cold-shooting Falcons (2-2). Jordan Lee (Sr., 6-1, Tacoma, Wa./Life Christian) and Chad Williams (Jr., 6-8, Burlington, Wa.) each had 11. Williams also hauled down 11 rebounds.

After hitting 54 percent from the field in Thursday's win over Hillsdale, SPU was just 26 of 73 on its field goals, including 7-30 on three-pointers.

The Vulcans (2-0) were led by the 25 points of Graham, a 6-4 transfer from Boise State, while Cabagnot added 22. Graham drained 5-7 treys and Cabagnot converted 10-12 free throws. Hawaii Hilo made 47 percent of its shots, 57 percent in the first half, after which it led 44-29.

The normally potent SPU starting five totaled only 36 points. Center Jason Chivers (Sr., 6-8, Los Angeles, Ca.) played 16 minutes, drew four fouls and scored three points on 1-6 shooting.

It was the Falcons' most lopsided loss to a Div. II team in 159 games. Washington defeated SPU by 18 in the season opener.

The Falcons conclude the tournament by facing Shippensburg (Pa.) Saturday afternoon.
