RENO (Nov. 13) In its final outing prior
to the regular season men's basketball opener, Seattle Pacific
University was unable to get untracked offensively and fell to
Nevada, 73-56, Saturday night at the Lawlor Events Center.
Ramon Sessions scored 15 points and Kevinn
Pinkney added 14 for the Wolfpack, who pulled awayin the early
stages of the second half after holding the Falcons scoreless for
the first 6 minutes, 15 seconds of the final period.
Jason Chivers (Sr., 6-8, Los Angeles, Ca.) led
SPU with 18 points and seven rebounds, with 11 of those points
coming in the first half. Dustin Bremerman (So., 6-4, Yakima,
Wa./Eisenhower) had 12 points.
For the game's first 10 minutes, Seattle
Pacific traded baskets with the Sweet 16 team of last spring.
Chivers gave SPU a 10-5 advantage after six minutes.
However Nevada took the lead for good on a Nick
Fazekas three-pointer, 22-19, and led 39-31 at the break. The
'Pack then went on a 22-9 run to start the second half, when the
Falcons committed 12 of their 21 turnovers . Nevada's size and
strength inside translated to a 47-28 margin in rebounds.
SPU opens the season Friday night at
Washington. That game is nearing a sellout at Bank of America
Arena.
