SEATTLE (Nov. 10) If women's soccer
teams invading Interbay Stadium wish to take home the NCAA
Division II Far West Regional title, they must first punch a hole
in the nation's No. 1 defense, Seattle Pacific University.
The unbeaten Falcons (19-0-1), who have allowed
just four goals in 20 games, lead the NCAA in regular season
scoring defense (0.198) and shutout percentage (0.80). They need
one more shutout to tie the national season record of 17.
Furthermore, SPU goalkeeper Jennifer Hull leads Div. II with a
goals-against average of 0.215.
Seattle Pacific takes a 25-game home win streak
into its playoff opener with Chico State in the second regional
semifinal Thursday night at 7 p.m. The Wildcats (11-5-4) did
manage to score in a 3-1 loss at Interbay Sept. 4. Seattle
University plays Cal State Dominguez Hills in the first semifinal
at 4.
Offensively, the Falcons are also the top team
in the regional field. They are 23rd nationally, averaging 2.90
goals per game. Michelle sanders leads a balanced attack with 10
goals while defender Michelle Everson leads the Great Northwest
Athletic Conference with 11 assists.
