SEATTLE (Nov. 8) Unbeaten and
No.1-ranked Seattle Pacific University is the top seed and will
host the NCAA Division II Womens Soccer Far West Regional
beginning Thursday (Nov. 11) at Interbay Stadium. All three games
of the regional tournament will be played on the Falcons
home field, including the Saturday night (Nov. 13) championship
game.
Seattle Pacific (19-0-1), which has won its
last 25 home games and was 10-0-0 at Interbay during the regular
season this year, will face Chico State (11-5-4) in the 7 p.m.
nightcap of the first round. Action starts at 4 p.m. Thursday with
No. 2 seed Cal State Dominguez Hills (14-5-3) vs. Seattle
University (14-3-3).
The Falcons, champions of the Great Northwest
Athletic Conference for the third time in the programs
four-year existence, opened the season with a 1-0home victory over
Cal State Dominguez Hills Aug. 28. SPU has also beat Chico State
3-1 at home Sept. 4. Seattle U. earned the sole tie with the
Falcons Sept. 18, but Seattle Pacific won the return game last
Saturday night, 4-0 at Interbay.
In all, 32 teams received Div. II berths
nationwide. Winners of the eight regional tournaments will advance
to the quarterfinal round, Nov. 20-21. The NCAA semifinals and
championship game are Dec. 2 and 4 in Wichita Falls, Tx.
Far West Regional tickets will go on sale
beginning Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the SPU Athletics Office
(206/281-2085) in the Pavilion. Prices are $6 for general
admission ($3 for students and youth). Ticket office hours are
9-4:30 through Wednesday, and again Friday. Interbay box office
ticket windows will open at 3 p.m. Thursday and 6 p.m. Saturday.
Seattle Pacific is hosting a womens
regional for the first time. A year ago, the Falcons became the
first Northwest team to qualify for the NCAA tournament, but they
were eliminated by Cal State Dominguez Hills in the first round,
2-1, in La Jolla, Ca.
