November 6, 2004

SEATTLE, Wa. Michelle Everson set the school record for assists in a season during the 4-0 win over Seattle Saturday night.

The Falcons (19-0-1/11-0-1 GNAC) extended their regular season unbeaten string to 37 games. SPU has won 25 straight at home and has not lost a conference game since September of 2002 (32 matches).

Everson (Jr., Tacoma, Wa.) entered the contest with nine assists and earned her tenth on a corner-kick to the head of Sarah Melby (Sr., Mukilteo, Wa.) in the 31st-minute, to give Seattle Pacific a 2-0 lead. The junior defender corner-kicked to Carolyn Nason (So., Broomfield, Co.) at 76:20 for her final assist of the evening.

The previous assist record of nine was held by Michelle Sanders (Sr., Centralia, Wa.) and was set in ’03.

Jessica Henson (Sr., Spokane, Wa.) opened up scoring at 12:47 with Shannon Lovejoy’s (Jr., Seattle, Wa.) assistance, taking a pass on the left wing and lofting a shot over the outstretched hands of SU keeper Kelly Stewart.

SPU kept Stewart relatively busy on the night, forcing the keeper into a half-dozen saves. Jennifer Hull (Sr., Eugene, Or.) saved one for SPU as the defense earned its sixth straight shutout. The Falcons have shut out opponents 16 times overall; the NCAA season record is 17.

Seattle Pacific held a 15-3 edge in shots and took five corner-kicks to SU’s 4.

Theresa Morelli (So., Bellevue, Wa.) scored at 82:16 off a rebounded shot taken by Leila Stalnaker (Sr., Auburn, Wa.) for the final margin.

The Falcons anxiously await NCAA tournament pairings to be announced Monday (Nov. 8) afternoon, and expect to be the top seed selected to play in the Far West Regional, Nov. 11 and 13 at a site to be announced.
