Falcons Sweep Lumberjacks for Sixth Win in Past Eight Volleyball Matches

SEATTLE, Wa. (Nov. 5)—The Seattle Pacific University volleyball team began its final home stand this weekend in strong fashion. Behind a huge night from junior Katie Ralph, the Falcons swept Humboldt State 3-0 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball action on Friday night at Brougham Pavilion.

The red-hot Falcons (9-6 GNAC, 13-10) picked up their sixth victory in the past eight matches. Five of those wins have been sweeps. SPU also recorded its 13th straight victory over Humboldt State (1-14 GNAC, 2-20).

Ralph (Port Orchard, Wa./South Kitsap) led all players with 16 kills. She did not commit an error on 25 swings and finished with a whopping .640 hitting percentage. Ralph, the GNAC leader in blocks, also had three block assists.

Alyssa Given (Fr., Salinas, Ca./Notre Dame) and Kathleen Monda(Sr., Woodinville, Wa.) were also in double figures in kills. Given came off the bench to spark the Falcons late, finishing with 12 kills. Monda had 10 kills, nine digs, two blocks and two service aces.

Jenna Von Moos (So., Stanwood, Wa.) also had a big night for SPU. She finished with eight kills while hitting at a .615 clip to go along with a match-high 41 assists, 18 digs and two block assists. Jessica Bauder (Sr., Richland, Wa.) led SPU early on with four quick kills in game one, before leaving midway through with an apparent ankle injury.

Jessica Murray led the Lumberjacks with eight kills in the loss. Courtney Lee added six kills and nine digs. HSU’s Maya Domoto led all players with 22 digs.

Seattle Pacific hit at a .260 clip as a team while holding Humboldt to just .036. The Falcons also finished with 58 kills to 26 by Humboldt State.

The Falcons play their final home match of the season tomorrow night in a GNAC contest against Western Oregon at 7:00 pm. Graduating seniors Bauder and Monda will be honored in a special ceremony before the match.
