SPU Men, Women Lead GNAC in Academic Soccer Selections
November 3, 2004

SEATTLE (Nov. 3) ­ A total of 22 Seattle Pacific University soccer players­eight men and 14 women - have been named to the 2004 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Soccer Academic all-star team.

The Falcon women led all GNAC teams with their 14 selections, including five three-time selections­Michelle Sanders (Sr., Centralia, Wa.), Jessica Henson (Sr., Spokane, Wa./University), Katie Lim (Sr., Hillsboro, Or.), Jennifer Hull (Sr., Eugene, Or./Sheldon) and Karen France (Sr., Woodland Park, Co./Palmer)­ and six repeat recipients. Among those was Allison Teague (Jr., Redmond, Wa./Bellevue Christian), who had the highest grade point average among the entire GNAC academic team.

Joining Teague as repeaters were Sarah Melby (Sr., Mukilteo, Wa./Kamiak), Jean Kolb (Jr., Eugene, Or./South Eugene), Briana Murphy (Jr., Ferndale, Wa.), Megan Lienhard (Jr., Everett, Wa./Cascade) and Michelle Everson (Jr., Tacoma, Wa./Stadium).

SPU also had the most men's selections. James Ward (Sr., Salem, Or./Sprague) was a three-time selection for the men while Brent Egbert (Sr., Bellingham, Wa./Sehome), Ross Vaillancourt (Jr., Bedford, NH/Manchester West) and David Smith (Sr., Corvallis, Or.) each made it for the second time.

To be eligible for the academic team, student-athletes must have a minimum grade point average of 3.20 and be in at least their second year of competition at their university.
