Falcon Volleyball Rally Falls Short in Fairbanks

Fairbanks, Ak. (Oct. 29) Katie Ralph led four Falcons in double figures in kills with 18, but Seattle Pacific’s comeback effort came up short as SPU lost 3-2 to Alaska Fairbanks in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball match late Friday night in Fairbanks.

The Falcons overcame a 2-0 deficit but fell in the maximum five games 26-30, 23-30, 30-20, 30-22, 9-15. Seattle Pacific dropped to 7-6 in the GNAC and 11-10 overall. Fairbanks improved to 8-6 in league play and 11-10 overall.

Ralph (Jr., Port Orchard, Wa./South Kitsap) also had four block assists and scored a team-high 20 points in the match. Ralph’s 18 kills matched her season best, a feat she also accomplished on Sep. 24 at Western Washington. Jessica Bauder (Sr., Richland, Wa.) added 15 kills and 15 digs.

Chelsey Myers (Jr., Minden, Nv./Douglas) chipped in 11 kills, 12 digs and five blocks in the loss. Whitney Dibble (So., Reno, Nv./Galena) had 11 kills, six digs and seven blocks. Setter Jenna Von Moos (So., Stanwood, Wa.) finished with a match-high 50 assists and 18 digs.

Danielle Hitzeman had a match-high 19 kills to go along with 19 digs for the Nanooks. Carlin Smith had 12 kills and 10 blocks in the win. Mallory Bergstrom chipped in nine kills, 19 digs and six blocks.

The Falcons play at Alaska Anchorage in a GNAC match tomorrow at 8:00 pm.
