SEATTLE (Oct. 21) Scoring just 82
seconds into the game, Megan Lienhard gave No. 1-ranked and
undefeated Seattle Pacific University its ninth straight victory,
1-0 over Humboldt State in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference
women's soccer game Thursday afternoon.
Jennifer Hull (Sr., Eugene, Or.) posted her
ninth shutout and the team's eighth during the win streak, easily
saving three shots by the Lumberjacks (3-5-0, 8-6-1).
Jean Kolb (Jr., Eugene, Or.) initiated the
scoring play, serving an out-swinging cross from the flank which
Lienhard (Jr., Everett, Wa./Cascade) volleyed into the net at
1:22, making it the earliest goal in the program's four-year
history. It was Lienhard's third goal of the season and her first
game-winner. Kolb has three assists.
The Falcons (7-0-1, 15-0-1) are now unbeaten
(30-0-3) in their last 33 regular season games and 28 GNAC
contests.
Allie Teague (Jr., Redmond, Wa./Bellevue
Christian) nearly gave SPU some added insurance when her drive hit
the crossbar. Both Lienhard and Shannon Lovejoy (Jr., Seattle,
Wa./Seattle Prep) sent close-range shots over the bar late in the
game.
Seattle Pacific, which leads NCAA Division II
in scoring defense, has allowed only four goals in 16 games. It
has played five straight on the road and visits Western Oregon
next Thursday before playing the final three at home.
