SEATTLE (Oct. 19) Brent Egbert scored
his 12th goal of the season to earn Seattle Pacific University a
1-1 overtime draw with Simon Fraser in a non-conference men's
soccer game Tuesday night at Interbay Stadium.
Egbert (Sr., Bellingham, Wa./Sehome) connected
on a 15-yard strike to the left post with 1 minute, 13 seconds
left in the first half of regulation, tying the game at 1.
The Clan (10-3-1), ranked 10th in NAIA, and the
Falcons (10-2-2), rated No. 18 in NCAA Division II, battled
through a scoreless second half and 20 minutes of overtime.
For the fourth time this season Seattle Pacific
conceded the opening goal at home. Andrew Corazza ran on to Justin
Dudley's long ball over the top and beat James Ward from 20 yards
at 7:59. It was Corazza's 18th goal of the year.
Egbert got the equalizer after taking a short
pass from James Coggan (Fr., San Jose, Ca.).
Twice in the second half of regulation, the
Falcons threatened to go in front. Egbert drove a 12-yard shot
which SFU goalie Raegyn Hall pushed over the top in the 49th
minute. Matt Kemper tested Hall again in the 83rd minute, chesting
down a loose ball and sending a dipping shot from 17 yards which
the keeper tipped over for a corner kick.
With 45 seconds left in the first overtime,
Simon Fraser's David McPhail nearly ended it on a quick
counterattack, but his 18-yard attempt curled just over the bar.
The Falcons, after managing just two shots in
the first half, got seven in the second half to go with seven
corner kicks. Ward (Sr., Salem, Or.) made six saves, four coming
in the first 45 minutes.
