Falcons Finish Two-Match Volleyball Trip With Second Straight Sweep

ARCATA, Ca. (Oct. 9) Kathleen Monda had a match-high 12 kills and the Falcons hit for a season-best .307 percentage as Seattle Pacific recorded its second straight sweep, knocking off host Humboldt State 3-0 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball match on Saturday night in Arcata.

The Falcons (5-4 GNAC, 9-8) moved above the .500 plateau in league play for the first time this season with a 30-19, 30-25, 30-22 victory. Seattle Pacific also swept Western Oregon on Thursday night to finish perfect on its current two-match road trip. Humboldt State dropped to 1-8 in the GNAC and 2-14 overall.

Monda (Sr., Woodinville, Wa.) hit for a .370 percentage and added nine digs and three blocks in leading SPU to victory. She tallied a match-high 13.5 points.

The Falcons captured the momentum midway through the first game, using a seven-point run to turn an 18-14 lead into a 25-14 advantage. SPU hit .405 as a team in the first game. The Falcons continued to cruise, leading throughout the entire second game, and posting a .324 hitting percentage to close out the match in game three.

Chelsey Myers (Jr., Minden, Nv./Douglas) had 10 kills, nine blocks and hit at a .346 clip in the SPU win. Jessica Bauder (Sr., Richland, Wa.) added nine kills, 10 digs and three blocks. Whitney Dibble (So., Reno, Nv./Galena) and Katie Ralph (Jr., Port Orchard, Wa./South Kitsap) finished with eight kills apiece.

Dibble also had three blocks; Ralph had two. Jenna Von Moos (So., Stanwood, Wa.) led all players with 42 assists to go along with seven digs and a pair of blocks.

Jessica Murray led the Lumberjacks with 11 kills and 11 digs. Jacque Skinner had a match-high 15 digs in the loss.

Seattle Pacific finished with nine blocks and held HSU to just a .122 hitting percentage. The Falcons recorded 54 kills to just 39 by the Jacks.

The Falcons next host Saint Martin’s in a GNAC match on Friday at 7:00 pm.
