Western Edges SPU Women in Downsized Cross Country Dual
October 2, 2004

MAPLE FALLS, Wash. (Oct. 2) Freshman Karin Rohde finished third overall for Seattle Pacific University but the undermanned Falcons were defeated by Western Washington, 20-41, in a cross country dual meet Saturday at Silver Lake.

The Vikings, paced by race runner-up Laura Trevellyan, claimed seven of the first nine scoring slots. SPU had only one male runner.

Rohde (Fr., Bellingham, Wa./Mount Baker) completed the 3-mile trail in 19 minutes, 16 seconds. Stafanie Mills was the winner in 17:14 and Trevellyan was next in 18:10. Kaitlian Rohde (Fr., Bellingham, Wa./Mount Baker) was the team's No. 2 scorer and took sixth in the dual in 20:36.

Steve Miller (Fr., Edmonds, Wa./King's) was 47th overall in the men's race in 17:47.

The next meet for the Falcons is Saturday's Western Washington Invitational at Bellingham's Lake Padden.

Seattle Pacific was missing many of its key runners, who were attending a memorial service for Micah Kellcy. An all-conference hurdler and June graduate of SPU, Kellcy was killed in motorcycle-car accident Sept. 26 in Tacoma.
