October 1, 2004

SEATTLE (Oct. 1) – Chelsey Myers had 10 kills and 14 digs to lead Seattle Pacific to a 3-0 sweep over Alaska Anchorage in Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball action on Friday night at Brougham Pavilion.

The Falcons (3-3 GNAC, 7-7) dominated play at the net to move their record back up to .500 while gaining ground in the conference standings. Seattle Pacific hit for a .209 percentage as a team en route to a 30-25, 30-24, 30-19 victory. SPU held Alaska Anchorage (3-4 GNAC, 9-6) to just .095.

Myers (Jr., Minden, Nv./Douglas) was also the game’s leading scorer, tallying 13 SPU points. She hit at a .229 clip and also had two solo blocks. Jessica Bauder (Sr., Richland, Wa.) added nine kills in just two games played and hit at a .273 clip. Katie Ralph (Jr., Port Orchard, Wa./South Kitsap) added nine kills and four blocks.

The Falcons trailed 18-13 midway through the first game, but came on strong to take control of the match. Behind Rachel Biornstad(Fr., Kent, Wa./Kentlake), who had six kills and hit at a .556 clip in game one alone, SPU scored four straight points to pull ahead 20-19 and extended that lead to as much as six to capture the momentum. Biornstad finished with eight kills and a .316 hitting percentage.

Ralph, 5, Myers, 4, and Bauder, 4, combined for 13 of the team’s 19 kills in the second game to give SPU a commanding lead. The Falcon defense did the rest as Seattle Pacific held the Seawolves to a negative hitting percentage (-.047) in game three.

Carolyn DeKay and Jenny Mitchell each had eight kills to pace Anchorage.

Jenna Von Moos (So., Stanwood, Wa.) had a match-high 42 assists for the Falcons, along with nine digs. Tiffany Butac (So., Pearl City, Hi./Hawaii Baptist) led all players with 21 digs.

The Falcons are back in action tomorrow night against Alaska Fairbanks in a GNAC match beginning at 7:00 pm.
