ELLENSBURG, Wash. (Sept. 29) Sarah
Martinez ignited a flurry of three goals over a six-minute span of
the first half and No. 2-ranked Seattle Pacific University went on
to post a 4-0 win over Central Washington in a Great Northwest
Athletic Conference women's soccer game Wednesday.
Theresa Morelli (So., Bellevue, Wa./Bellevue
Christian), Heidi Jacobson (Jr., Kirkland, Wa./Cedar Park
Christian) and Carolyn Nason (So., Lafayette, Co.) also scored for
the Falcons (3-0-1/9-0-1), who extended their conference unbeaten
streak to 24 games. It was the third straight shutout.
Martinez (Fr., Bothell, Wa./Cedar Park
Christian), scoring in her third consecutive game, put the
visitors ahead in the 27th minute, converting a loose ball in the
box. Sixty-eight seconds later, Jacobson sprung Morelli for a
breakaway. Jacobson got her fourth goal of the season in the 33rd
minute, finishing a give-and-go with Kara Hamby (Fr., Spokane,
Wa.).
Nason closed out the scoring in the 53rd minute
off an assist from Jessica Henson (Sr., Spoakne, Wa.). Jennifer
Hull (Sr., Eugene, Or.) and Erin Pierce (Jr., Milwaukie, Or.)
shared the shutout, with Hull making two saves.
Seattle Pacific finished with a 12-2 advantage
in shots, with both of the Wildcats' (2-3-0/5-6-0) attempts coming
in the first 26 minutes.
The Falcons are of to their best start,
reaching the midway point undefeated. They have not lost a GNAC
game in over two years.
SPU goes after its 22nd straight home win
Saturday afternoon versus Humboldt State. Kick-off is 1 p.m. at
Interbay Stadium.
