SEATTLE (Sept. 29) Memorial services for
Micah Kellcy, a former all-conference hurdler and recent graduate
of Seattle Pacific University, will be held Saturday afternoon
(Oct. 2) in Lakewood, Wash. Friends, teammates and classmates are
invited to a 2 p.m. service at the Clover Park High School
gymnasium.
Kellcy was killed in a motorcycle-car accident
which occurred Sunday afternoon near the Tacoma Mall.
"Micah will be missed by his
teammates and coaches. He was such a pleasure to know, coach and
be around for the past three years," said Jack Hoyt, SPU head
coach. "Micah's big smile and friendly attitude made a great
contribution to our team. It was also obvious that Micah always
placed God first in his life. He was a tremendous example of
Christian love. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family."
A psychology major, Kellcy had graduated from
Seattle Pacific in June. He competed for three seasons in track
and field for the Falcons from 2002-04, running both the 400-meter
hurdles and relays. As a junior, Kellcy finished third in the
Great Northwest Athletic Conference championships in the
intermediate hurdles. He was fourth as a sophomore and sixth as a
senior. He ran the leadoff leg for the 1600 relay which was GNAC
runner-up in 2002 and '03.
He completed his career ranked No. 5 in the 400
hurdles and a member of the No. 2 all-time 1600 relay. The
Lakewood resident was a 1999 graduate of Clover Park High School,
where he also hurdled and ran relays. He also lettered in football
and wrestling.
According to police reports, Kellcy, 23, was
riding his motorcycle north on Tacoma Mall Boulevard when a
minivan headed south on the same street made a left turn in front
of him. The motorcycle collided with the side of the minivan.
Kellcy was taken to Madigan Army Medical Center in critical
condition. He died of his injuries later that night. No one else
was injured.
Clover Park High School is located at 11023
Gravelly Lake Drive Southwest in Lakewood.
Kellcy is survived by his parents, Walt and
Martha Kellcy, and two older brothers.
