4th-Ranked Falcon Women Overwhelm Western Oregon's Soccer Team, 3-0
September 25, 2004

SEATTLE, Wa. (Sept. 25)—Sarah Martinez, Jessica Henson and Carolyn Nason each scored goals in the first half of play as nationally fourth-ranked Seattle Pacific University overwhelmed Western Oregon 3-0 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women’s soccer match Saturday night at Interbay Stadium.

The Falcons (8-0-1) notched their 21st consecutive victory at Interbay Stadium before a near-capacity crowd of 740. The win-streak dates back to Sept. 25, 2002. SPU has not lost a GNAC match in 23 tries.

Martinez (Fr., Bothell, Wa./Cedar Park Christian) opened up the scoring at 3:46, with her second goal in as many games. The freshman pounced on a loose ball off a Michelle Everson (Jr., Tacoma, Wa./Stadium) corner-kick and beat Western Oregon starting keeper Amanda Nelson to the right post from six-yards out.

Seattle Pacific made the most of its 10 corner-kicks on the night, scoring on two. At 39:42, defender Carolyn Nason (So., Lafayette, Co./Broomfield) headed another Everson corner-kick to the right post from eight yards.

Jessica Henson (Sr., Spokane, Wa./University) took a cross from the foot of midfielder Heidi Jacobson (Jr., Kirkland, Wa./Cedar Park Christian) and one-touched it to the right post at 39:42, for the final margin. Henson’s score was left-footed and hit from 14-yards.

Overall, Seattle Pacific out shot Western Oregon (2-8-1) 24-1. Falcon goalkeepers Jennifer Hull (Sr., Eugene, Or./Sheldon), Erin Pierce (Jr., Milwaukie, Or./Rex Putnam) and Katie Ruggles (So., Eugene, Or./South Eugene) combined for the shutout while Nelson and Ally Miller made four saves in goal for the Wolves.

The Falcons take to the road for their next match, traveling to Ellensburg to meet with Central Washington on Wednesday afternoon (3PM). SPU plays Humboldt State at Interbay Oct. 2 (1PM). Both are Great Northwest Athletic Conference counters.
