FAIRBANKS (Sept. 25) Braving the cold
for the second time in three days, the Seattle Pacific University
cross country teams, behind Tim LeCount and Karen Dickson, once
again defeated host Alaska Fairbanks in a short course dual
Saturday at Birch Hill Park.
LeCount (Jr., Battle Ground, Wa.) led a parade
of four SPU men across the finish line in the 4000-meter event as
the Falcons nearly achieved a perfect score in beating the Naooks
16-39 in 34-degree temperatures. LeCount was timed in 11 minutes,
11 seconds, and was followed by Eddie Stricker (So., Richland,
Wa.) in 11:18; Paul Mach (Sr., Seattle, Wa./King's) in 11:20 and
Bjorn Bostrom (So., La Conner, Wa./Bellingham, Wa.) in 11:25.
Dickson (So., El Dorado Hills, Ca.) scored her
third win in four meets, pulling away to win handily in 12:52. Her
margin of victory was 41 seconds over Johanna Turunen of UAF.
Karin Rohde (Fr., Bellingham, Wa./Mt. Baker) was a close third in
13:34. The 3-5 runners clinched the outcome, 22-33. Tracy Kuhn
(Jr., Port Angeles, Wa.) was fifth (14:07), Megan Wrightman (Fr.,
Bend, Or.) sixth (14:09) and Nikki Jensen (So., Portland, Or.)
seventh (14:23).
At the Saint Martin's Invitational in Lacey,
Wa., Becky Knox (So., Denver, Co.) ran fourth for the Falcons, who
did not field full men's or women's teams. Kelly Fullerton of
Seattle University was the winner in 18:04. Knox completed the 5k
in 19:14.
