4th-Ranked Falcon Women Soccer Downs MSU-Billings, 3-0
September 22, 2004

SEATTLE, Wa. (Sept. 22)—Sarah Martinez scored a goal and assisted on another as nationally 4th-ranked Seattle Pacific University downed Montana State-Billings 3-0, in a non-conference women’s soccer match Wednesday night at Interbay Stadium.

The win lifted the Falcons to a nearly perfect 7-0-1 record and kept the Interbay win streak of 20-consecutive games intact. Seattle Pacific has not lost at home since Sept. 25, 2002. The 3-0 decision marked MSU-Billings’ first loss on the season (6-1-1).

Martinez (Fr., Bothell, Wa./Cedar Park Christian) opened up scoring at 21:50, taking a Megan Lienhard (Jr., Everett, Wa./Cascade) feed from the right wing and beating MSU-Billings keeper Megan Plank to the left post from 10-yards. Katie Lim (Sr., Hillsboro, Or.) was also credited with an assist on the play, for her looping pass from the left wing, to Lienhard.

Heidi Jacobson (Jr., Kirkland, Wa./Cedar Park Christian) scored her second goal in as many games to give SPUa 2-0 lead heading into the locker room at intermission (36:26). Midfielder Shannon Lovejoy (Jr., Seattle, Wa./Seattle Prep.) played the ball forward to teammate Theresa Morelli (So., Bellevue, Wa./Bellevue Chistian). From the top of the penalty box, Morelli one-touched Lovejoy’s pass to Jacobson, who blasted a 20-yard shot over the top of Plank for the score.

Forward Michelle Sanders (Sr., Centralia, Wa.) provided the final margin late in the second half (82:07) off a Martinez through-ball. Sanders leads the team with five goals on the ’04 season.

The Falcons out shot Billings a lopsided 14-5, and earned three corner kicks to the Yellowjackets’ two. Jennifer Hull (Sr., Eugene, Or./Sheldon) earned her fifth shutout in goal for SPU, saving three balls; Plank saved two.

Seattle Pacific closes out its two-game home stand and resumes Great Northwest Athletic Conference play Saturday night against Western Oregon. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30.
