SPU Rallies for GNAC Volleyball Victory at Saint Martin's
September 18, 2004

Lacey, Wash. (Sept. 18) Katie Ralph had a match-high 17 kills to lead Seattle Pacific to a 3-2 comeback victory over Saint Martin's in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball match on Saturday night in Lacey.

After winning the first game, the Falcons (6-6, 2-2 GNAC) dropped the next two and had to rally for the 32-30, 28-30, 20-30, 30-28, 15-8 victory. The Saints (2-8, 0-3) remained winless in conference play.

Ralph (Jr., Port Orchard, Wa./South Kitsap) hit at a .317 clip and added 10 digs and six blocks, also a match high. Alyssa Given (Fr., Salinas, Ca./Notre Dame was also in double figures with 14 kills along with three service aces and eight digs.

After pulling ahead 24-18 late in the first game, SPU fell behind 29-30 behind a fierce comeback by Saint Martin's. The Falcons fended off game point behind a kill by Ralph and took the 32-30 win on two straight hitting errors by the Saints.

In the second game, SPU again pulled ahead late, capturing a 22-17 lead. But the Saints again stormed back, including five straight points for a 30-28 win. Game three was all Saint Martin's, and SPU outlasted the Saints in the fourth. SPU saved its best performance of the night for the fifth and decisive game, cruising past the home side 15-8.

SPU setter Jenna Von Moos (So., Stanwood, Wa.) finished with eight kills, 51 assists, 20 digs and four blocks in the victory. Kathleen Monda (Sr., Woodinville, Wa.) chipped in nine kills and 13 digs.

Emily Wofford led four Saints in double figures with 15 kills. Christy Hurley and Lauren Kreiger added 13 kills each. Andrea Athey had 11 kills and 23 digs.

The Falcons take on Western Washington in a GNAC match next Friday in Bellingham at 7:00 pm
