Dickson Is Top Collegiate Runner at Sundodger Meet

SEATTLE (Sept. 18) ­ Karen Dickson of Seattle Pacific University raced to the top finish by a collegian and third place overall in the Sundodger Invitational cross country meet Saturday at Lincoln Park.

Dickson (So., El Dorado Hills, Ca.), who won last week's Emerald City Invitational, came on strong in the latter stages of the featured 6000-meter event and finished in 21 minutes, 20 seconds­just behind second-place Alison Rendell (21:19) of Canadian club Kajaks.

Club Northwest's Sabrina Munro, formerly of Washington, was the runaway winner in a course-record 20:09. Jeanine Hagedorn of San Francisco was the runner-up collegian and fourth overall in 21:21.

The SPU men, coming a victory at Emerald City, took seventh in the men's open division and were first among three Great Northwest Athletic Conference teams. Tim LeCount (Jr., Battle Ground, Wa.) was the Falcons' top scorer, taking 19th. His time for 8k was 25:48. Bjorn Bostrom (So., La Conner, Wa./Bellingham) was 26th in 26:04.

Brandon Reiff won in 24:38 and Simon Fraser swept both the men's and women's open team crowns.

The remainder of the Seattle Pacific women, competing in the open division, were eighth. Becky Knox Jr., Denver, Co.) was top scorer, taking 30th in 18:53 and Karin Rohde (Fr., Bellingham, Wa./Mt. Baker) was 43rd in 19:14.

Seattle Pacific will travel to Alaska this week for a pair of meets near Fairbanks. The Nanook Long Course Open is Thursday afternoon.
