Undefeated Wildcats Continue to Roll With Sweep of Falcons Volleyball Team
September 17, 2004

Complete Box Score

Ellensburg, Wash. (Sept. 17) Seattle Pacific battled Central Washington in all three games, but the Wildcats came out on top in each of them, recording a 3-0 victory in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball match on Friday night at Nicholson Pavilion.

It was nothing new for the Wildcats (10-0, 2-0 GNAC), who have had a near flawless start. Central, who has lost only four games out of 34 in its perfect start, knocked off Seattle Pacific (5-6, 1-2) by a score of 30-27, 30-26, 30-24.

Alyssa Given (Fr., Salinas, Ca./Notre Dame) and Kathleen Monda (Sr., Woodinville, Wa.) had 13 kills each to lead the upset-minded Falcons. Given also had three service aces and seven digs. Whitney Dibble (So., Reno, Nv./Galena) was also in double figures with 10 kills and a team-high 15 digs.

The Wildcat offense proved to be too much, however. Led by LeAnne McGahuey’s 13 kills and .435 hitting percentage, Central Washington hit at a .282 clip as a team. Cristina Null added 12 kills and hit .440 for the match. Crystal Ames chipped in 10 kills and eight digs in the victory.

The Falcons were close in all three games. In the first, SPU pulled to within two, 23-21, before CWU scored three straight points to capture a five-point lead late. Seattle Pacific trailed 28-24, but scored three straight to pull within one, 28-27, before Central closed with two straight points.

In the second game, Seattle Pacific held a late lead 22-20, but the Cats scored four straight points to capture the lead for good. In the third game, Seattle Pacific jumped out to an 8-5 lead, but the Cats stormed back to go ahead 21-16. SPU again battled to pull within three late, but Central Washington held on to pull off the sweep.

The Falcons are back in action tomorrow night at Saint Martin’s in GNAC action beginning at 7:00 pm.
