September 11, 2004

Complete Box Score

SEATTLE, Wa. (Sept.) 11—Chelsey Myers had match highs of 18 kills and 21 digs to lead Seattle Pacific past Northwest Nazarene 3-1 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball action on Saturday night at Brougham Pavilion.

Winners in four of their last six matches, the Falcons (5-5, 1-1 GNAC) won three straight games after dropping the first for a 21-30, 30-25, 30-18, 30-23 victory, their first in league play. Losers of two straight, the Crusaders (5-3, 0-2) were denied their first conference win.

Myers (Jr., Minden, Nv.) was the catalyst for the SPU comeback, coming up with three kills early in game two to lead the Falcons to a 16-9 lead. The Falcons extended their lead to 28-18, but the Crusaders stormed back with seven straight points to threaten at 28-25 and still serving. Myers ended the rally with a kill and SPU closed out the game on a NNU attack error.

In game three, Northwest Nazarene trailed SPU by one point at 5-4, but Myers pounded down two straight points to start a 13-5 run as the Falcons ran away with the win. She had seven kills and hit .700 in that game alone. Myers finished at a season-high .324 clip for the match.

Alyssa Given (Fr., Salinas, Wa./Notre Dame) and Kathleen Monda (Sr., Woodinville, Wa.) added 15 kills apiece in the victory. Monda led all players with six kills in the fourth game as SPU again jumped out to a huge lead (28-18) only to have Northwest Nazarene mount a comeback, but Given scored the Falcons’ final two points on powerful attacks to close the match, the latter ending a run n which NNU held off four match points.

SPU’s power at the net proved to be too much for the Crusaders. The Falcons tied a season high with a .279 team hitting percentage. The Falcons also had eight blocks in the match. Katie Ralph (Jr., Port Orchard, Wa./South Kitsap) led the way with six, including two solo blocks. She also had a career-high five service aces to lead SPU to a team season-high of 12.

Jenna Von Moos (So., Stanwood, Wa.) eclipsed 50 assists for the second straight match with 52. She had a career-high 59 last night against Seattle University. Von Moos’ previous career high had been 48.

Chelsea Lewis led three Crusaders in double figures with 15 kills. Lilly Carreon and Lindsay Miller each had 11. Miller also had 12 digs.

The Falcons are back in action on Friday night at Central Washington in a GNAC match.
