Sanders, Martinez Lift 5th-Ranked SPU Women Over SF State
September 10, 2004

SAN FRANCISCO, Ca. (Sept. 10)—Second half goals by Michelle Sanders and Sarah Martinez lifted fifth-ranked Seattle Pacific University over San Francisco State 2-0, in a non-conference soccer match Friday afternoon at Cox Stadium.

The win marked the Falcons’ (5-0) fifth in a row, and kept their perfect record intact heading into Wednesday evening’s Great Northwest Athletic Conference opener against Western Washington. Seattle Pacific has won the conference the last two years running.

Sanders (Sr., Centralia, Wa,) notched her 21st career goal at 54:56, beating SFSU keeper Erin Clark to the post with assistance from Shannon Lovejoy (Jr., Seattle, Wa./Seattle Prep.).

At 67:31, Sarah Martinez (Fr., Bothell, Wa./Cedar Park Christian) struck net on an unassisted goal from 15-yards out for the final margin. Martinez, just a freshman, has scored twice in the last four games.

Falcon keeper Jennifer Hull (Sr., Eugene, Or./Sheldon) stopped two shots on the way to her fourth shut-out. Clark made 10 saves for San Francisco. SPU out-shot the Gators a lopsided 23-2, 14 taken in the second half of play.
