SAN FRANCISCO, Ca. (Sept. 10)Second half
goals by Michelle Sanders and Sarah Martinez lifted fifth-ranked
Seattle Pacific University over San Francisco State 2-0, in a
non-conference soccer match Friday afternoon at Cox Stadium.
The win marked the Falcons (5-0) fifth in
a row, and kept their perfect record intact heading into Wednesday
evenings Great Northwest Athletic Conference opener against
Western Washington. Seattle Pacific has won the conference the
last two years running.
Sanders (Sr., Centralia, Wa,) notched her 21st
career goal at 54:56, beating SFSU keeper Erin Clark to the post
with assistance from Shannon Lovejoy (Jr., Seattle, Wa./Seattle
Prep.).
At 67:31, Sarah Martinez (Fr., Bothell,
Wa./Cedar Park Christian) struck net on an unassisted goal from
15-yards out for the final margin. Martinez, just a freshman, has
scored twice in the last four games.
Falcon keeper Jennifer Hull (Sr., Eugene,
Or./Sheldon) stopped two shots on the way to her fourth shut-out.
Clark made 10 saves for San Francisco. SPU out-shot the Gators a
lopsided 23-2, 14 taken in the second half of play.
Seattle Pacific returns to its home field of
Interbay where it has won 18 consecutive matches, to take on
Western Washington on Wednesday night (Sept. 15). The Falcons
travel to Seattle University Sept. 18. Kick-off time against the
Vikings is seven oclock.
