SAN FRANCISCO (Sept. 9) Brent Egbert
scored in his third straight game, getting the game-winning goal
in the 61st minute, and Seattle Pacific University extended its
unbeaten run to four games with a 3-1 non-conference men¹s
soccer win over San Francisco State at Cox Stadium Thursday.
The Falcons (3-1-1) also got goals from Michael
Morris (So., Bothell, Wa/Blanchet) in the first half and Nick
Letts (Jr., Dublin, Ca.) in the final 9 minutes as they matched
their best five-game start in seven years.
Egbert (Sr., Bellingham, Wa./Sehome) took a
feed from Letts, avoided a tackle in the box and beat Gators
goalie Kenny Brandenburg from nine yards at 60:21. He has three
goals and an assist in the last three games.
Letts put the outcome out of reach in the 82nd
minute, heading home a ball from Ross Vaillancourt (Jr., Bedford,
NH). Jeff Hallenbeck (Fr., Redmond, Wa./Inglemoor) also assisted
on the play.
Seattle Pacific had staked an early 1-0 lead on
a penalty kick by Morris. Michael Brkich had been tripped by an
SFSU defender to earn the spot kick at 13:31.
San Francisco State knotted the score seven
minutes later on a goal by Whitney Johnson. It was the first goal
scored against SPU in the first half this season.
The Gators (1-5-0) have lost five in a row.
Seattle Pacific has won three and tied once since losing its
opener. It is in the midst of a seven-game, three-week road swing.
James Ward (Sr., Salem, Or) made three saves
and SPU finished with a 14-8 advantage in shots and 6-4 in corner
