SEATTLE (Aug. 28) Michelle Sanders
scored to the left post three minutes into the match to lift
Seattle Pacific University to victory over Cal State Dominguez
Hills 1-0 in its season opener Saturday afternoon at Interbay
Stadium.
The Falcons upped their home win streak to 16
straight games and in doing so, avenged an NCAA postseason playoff
loss to the Toros (0-2) to close out the 2003season. Incidentally,
Cal State Dominguez Hills was the last team to defeat Seattle
Pacific at Interbay.
Three minutes into the match, Sanders (Sr.,
Centralia, Wa.) trapped a looping pass from defender Katie Lim
(Sr., Hillsboro, Or.), turned, and beat two Toro defenders on a
thirty-yard romp toward the visitors goal. The senior fired
a shot off CSDH onrushing keeper Mallory Dominguez and touched the
rebound to the left post for the games only goal.
The rest of the match was evenly contested. The
Toros mustered a half-dozen shots to the Falcons eight, and
each team traded just one corner kick. Seattle Pacific goaltender
Jennifer Hull (Sr., Eugene, Or./Sheldon) saved four balls while
Dominguez successfully blocked three.
The defending Great Northwest Athletic
Conference Champion Falcons (1-0) play Cal Poly Pomona in a
non-conference contest at Interbay on Monday night. Kick-off is
scheduled for 7 oclock.
