SEATTLE (Aug. 23) James Ward stopped
four shots as Seattle Pacific University held Washington to a 0-0
draw in a men's soccer preseason exhibition Monday night before a
crowd of nearly 600 at Interbay Stadium.
Ward (Sr., Corvallis, Or.) made three of his
saves in the second half when the Huskies intensified their
attack, particularly early in the period. Ward caught a 14-yard
drive from UW defender Will Flanagan in the 47th minute. The SPU
goalie then came quickly off his line to block Kevin Forrest's
8-yard shot near the left post with 30 minutes remaining.
Seattle Pacific's best scoring attempt occurred
in the 77th minute. From the right wing, James Coggan (Fr., San
Jose, Ca.) slipped the ball inside the box to Brent Egbert (Sr.,
Bellingham, Wa/Sehome), but before Egbert could get off his shot
Washington keeper Chris Eylander dived to smother the ball at his
feet.
The Huskies finished with a 10-3 advantage in
shots.
SPU opens regular season play Saturday at 7
