SEATTLE A 14-game home winning streak
will be on the line when the Seattle Pacific University womens
soccer team opens its season Aug. 28 against regional nemesis Cal
State Dominguez Hills.
That game at Interbay Stadium will also be a
rematch of last falls first-round playoff game, won by the
Toros 2-1. The home win streak dates back to a 1-1 tie with Cal
State Dominguez Hills in 2002.
The Falcons finished their third season 17-2-2
and No. 10 in NCAA Division II. They return 10 of 11 starters from
the squad which won a second straight Great Northwest Athletic
Conference championship.
Following three games at Interbay, SPU makes
the first of three trips to California. GNAC play begins at home
Sept. 15 versus Western Washington with the Falcons seeking to
extend their conference unbeaten string to 21 games. After a
string of six straight games on the road in October, the final
three games will be played at home.
Among Coach Chuck Sekyras returnees are
all-America selections Shannon Lovejoy and Jennifer Hull. Lovejoy
led the team with 17 goals while Hull topped the NCAA in
goals-against average (0.30). |
