SEATTLE (June 18) Anxious to become mens
soccer championship contenders once again, Seattle Pacific
University will get an early indication of its prospects when the
Falcons host regional power Cal State Dominguez Hills in the
opening game of 2004 season.
SPU will face the Toros, NCAA Division II
champions in 2000 and runners-up in 01, Aug. 28 at Interbay
Stadium. It marks the first time the Falcons have opened a season
at home since 1997. After an Aug. 30 game with Cal Poly Pomona,
they embark on a arduous, 21-day, seven-game road trip stretching
from the Bay Area in California to South Florida.
Seven of the final nine games will be played at
Interbay. Defending Great Northwest Athletic champion Seattle
University visits Oct. 8 and NCAA runner-up Chico State arrives
Oct. 27.
Cliff McCrath, who guided his program to five
national titles between 1978-93, returns 10 starters from a club
which finished 9-8-2. Among the returnees are first team all-GNAC
selections James Ward, Jeremy Yerkes and Ross Vaillancourt.
