SEATTLE (June 8) Chris Randolph, who
battled back from an ankle injury to take third place in the NCAA
decathlon, was voted track and field male co-athlete of the year
in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

The Falcons Jennifer Marsh (Fr.,
Kirkland, Wa./Juanita) was the womens freshman of the year.
Randolph (So., Lone Tree, Co./Denver Christian) shared the GNAC
award with Central Washington triple-jumper Justin Lawrence.
After missing six weeks with an ankle sprain,
Randolph returned to take sixth place in the GNAC javelin May 8,
then won the Ken Foreman Invitational decathlon and qualified for
nationals the following week.
Randolph broke the conference decathlon scoring
(7030 points) javelin (165 feet, 3 inches) and high jump (6-7)
records at the NCAA Championships, May 27-28 in Walnut, Ca.
Marsh won four middle-distance races, including
the conference title in the 800 meters, and qualified for the NCAA
800 in her first year. She took 11th nationally.
Other GNAC award winners for women were Seattle
University steeplechaser Kelly Fullerton as athlete of the year
and Central Washington sprinter Terran Legard as newcomer of the
year. The mens newcomer was Josh Timmer of Saint Martins
and the freshman of the year was Western Oregons Sam Hobbs.
