Sara Johnson of Seattle
Pacific University took sixth place in the women's javelin and
earned All-American honors on the final day of the NCAA Track
and Field Championships. |
Johnson (Jr., Kennewick, Wa.) launched her best
throw -- 145 feet, 3 inches -- on her first attempt, and was fifth
entering the final stage. Slippery Rock's Karyn McCready
outdistanced the field with an opening throw of 164-0. None of the
other competitors in the closely bunched field got closer than 15
feet. Places two through eight were all between 141 and 149-0.
Johnson came into the meet with seven wins this
season and, by scoring three points, earned All-America status.
SPU, which got five points from Danielle
Ayers-Stamper in the heptathlon, finished with a total of eight.
All five of their women's qualifiers return next season.
