SEATTLE (May 27) Rowing coxswain Joanna
Hodgkiss and gymnast Corrie McDaniel, both of Seattle Pacific
University, have been voted to the Verizon CoSIDA Academic
All-District VIII at-large first team. They are now finalists for
the Academic All-America team to be announced next month.
Hodgkiss (Sr., Tacoma, Wa./Puyallup HS) guided
the Falcon women's varsity four to a second straight national
championship earlier this month. Overall, her crew won eight of
nine races, including conference and regional titles. Hodgkiss is
an accounting major with a 3.76 grade point average.
McDaniel (Jr., Lawrence, Ks./Lawrence) was a
repeat selection as a student design major with a 3.80 GPA. She
was first team all-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation in
all-around and second team on vault. A dislocated elbow prevented
her from participating in the national championships.
The Verizon CoSIDA at-large team is comprised
of 10 athletes selected from 13 sports. District VIII is comprised
of eight western states and two Canadian provinces.
