SEATTLE (May 17) Danielle Ayers-Stamper
and Chris Randolph, both multi-event athletes for Seattle Pacific
University, were named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference
track & field performers of the week following their
national-qualifying marks at the Ken Foreman Invitational
Ayers-Stamper (So., LaCrosse, Wa.) posted the
highest heptathlon score in the GNAC and tied for fourth-best in
NCAA Division II, with 4855 points for second place. Three of her
marksa long jump of 17 feet, 7 1/2 inches, 100 hurdles of
14.99 seconds and high jump of 5-3 3/4were among the top
season marks in the conference this year. It was her first meet of
the season. She had originally planned to claim redshirt status
this spring. Ayers-Stamper was the NCAA and U.S. junior national
runner-up in the heptathlon in 2003.
Randolph (So., Lone Tree, Co./Denver Christian)
won the Foreman Invitational decathlon with 6881 points, improving
his career best marks in five of the 10 events. His javelin throw
of 179 feet was a conference decathlon record. It was the No. 4
qualifying score in Div. II and it came after Randolph had missed
six of the last seven meets with an ankle sprain.
The NCAA Championships are May 27-29 in Walnut
Ca. A final determination of qualifiers will be announced Tuesday.
