Randolph, Ayers-Stamper Earn GNAC Track and Field Athletes of Week
May 17, 2004

SEATTLE (May 17) – Danielle Ayers-Stamper and Chris Randolph, both multi-event athletes for Seattle Pacific University, were named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference track & field performers of the week following their national-qualifying marks at the Ken Foreman Invitational

Ayers-Stamper (So., LaCrosse, Wa.) posted the highest heptathlon score in the GNAC and tied for fourth-best in NCAA Division II, with 4855 points for second place. Three of her marks–a long jump of 17 feet, 7 1/2 inches, 100 hurdles of 14.99 seconds and high jump of 5-3 3/4–were among the top season marks in the conference this year. It was her first meet of the season. She had originally planned to claim redshirt status this spring. Ayers-Stamper was the NCAA and U.S. junior national runner-up in the heptathlon in 2003.

Randolph (So., Lone Tree, Co./Denver Christian) won the Foreman Invitational decathlon with 6881 points, improving his career best marks in five of the 10 events. His javelin throw of 179 feet was a conference decathlon record. It was the No. 4 qualifying score in Div. II and it came after Randolph had missed six of the last seven meets with an ankle sprain.

The NCAA Championships are May 27-29 in Walnut Ca. A final determination of qualifiers will be announced Tuesday.
