RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. (May 14) Seattle
Pacific University completed the domestic portion of its rowing
season by taking its fourth varsity women's four title in as many
weeks at the Pacific Coast Rowing Championships on Lake Natoma
Saturday.
The Falcons, who had already won conference,
regional and national titles, claimed the PCRC Division I
category, an open-water victory over runner-up Saint Mary's. SPU
held the lead throughout and finished in 7 minutes, 45.1 seconds.
The Gaels, who had won the preliminary heat, were next in 7:49.3.
Seattle Pacific is now idle until June 18, when
it begins racing at the Henley Women's regatta in England. The
Falcons have won nine of 11 races this season, including their
second straight ECAC National Invitational Championship May 9.
The varsity lineup was stroke Sara Zorn (Jr.,
Mercer Island, Wa./Lahser), Andrea Martineau (Jr., Superior, Mt.)
Heidi Visser (Sr., Wenatchee, Wa.), Carly Bollen (So., Missoula,
Mt.) and coxswain Joanna Hodgkiss (Sr., Tacoma, Wa./Puyallup).
The SPU women's junior varsity ended its season
by taking fourth in the Division II final. UC San Diego won in
8:14.5.
