SEATTLE (May 4) Carolyn
Nason, a freshman defender who started for Metro State (Co.)
conference and regional championship team last fall, has committed
to joining the Seattle Pacific University womens soccer
program next fall.
Nason, who will be a sophomore,
started 22 games for the Roadrunners, who led the NCAA in shutout
percentage (.740, 17 total) and advanced to the Division II
quarterfinal stage. Nason scored two goals from her left back
position, including a strike against Central Oklahoma in the
Midwest Regional. She played alongside her older sister, Kristin,
a senior defender for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference
champions. The Metro State defense allowed only nine goals. The
Roadrunners went 21-1-1 and were ranked No. 1 in the nation for
six weeks.
At Broomfield High School in
Lafayette, Colo., Nason was a Skyline League MVP and all-state
selection. The Eagles made the state semifinals three times. She
also played for Northglenns Colorado Xtreme.
Nason joins a Seattle Pacific
program which was 17-2-2 and finished No. 10 among NCAA Division
II teams. The Falcons won their second straight Great Northwest
Athletic Conference championship and advanced to the NCAA
tournament for the first time. They lost just one starter to
graduation.
Coach Chuck Sekyras
recruiting for 2004 is now complete. Earlier, SPU received
commitments from high school seniors Sarah Martinez, Tricia
Loomis, Kara Hamby and Jeanne Webster.
