Falcon Women Get Two More NCAA Marks at Oregon Invitational
April 24, 2004

Complete Meet Results

EUGENE, Ore. (Apr. 24) -- Janna Schaafsma's win in the 400-meter hurdles was among two new NCAA provisional qualifying marks established by Seattle Pacific University at the Oregon Invitational track and field meet Saturday afternoon and evening at Hayward Field.

The Falcons also got a new provisional time from the women's 1600 relay, which finished third in the featured twilight session, while distance runner Karen Dickson (Fr., El Dorado Hills, Ca.) improved her standing in the 10,000.

Schaafsma (So., Soldotna, Ak.) got the Falcons' only win, taking the daylight session intermediate hurdles in a personal-best time of 1 minute, 3.38 seconds. It was her first victory after three second-place showings in that event, and it was the top time in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference this season. Also in that race, Victoria Perkins (Fr., Kent, Wa./Kentwood) ran third (1:04.58) and Kelsey Gleason (So., Salem, Or.) was sixth (1:05.00).

The relay, getting a strong finish, was timed in 3:51.03an improvement of more than 2 seconds. Boise State took first in 3:47.58 and SPU anchor leg Kenyatta Leonhardt (Fr., Petaluma, Ca.) nearly ran down Utah, which was second in 3:50.50. Seattle Pacific's 400 relay also got a season-best time, taking second to Eastern Washington (48.02) in 48.27.

Dickson lowered her time in the 10k by 36 seconds, placing third in a PR of 36:46.19. Chico State's Missy Lendl was first in 35:50.81. Jennifer Marsh (Fr., Kirkland, Wa./Juanita) ran near her season-best, placing fifth (2:13.68) in the twilight 800. Courtney Inman won in 2:08.57.

In the pole vault, Allie Hedges (So., Richland, Wa.) and Amy Harris (So., Philomath, Or.) tied for third at 11-3 3/4. Jean Kolb (So., Eugene, Or./South Eugene) sprinted to a season-best 12.66, taking fourth in the daylight session 100.

Next week the Falcons compete in a rare Friday meet, the Western Washington Twilight in Bellingham. It will be the final opportunity to post qualifying marks for the GNAC Championships the following week.
