Arlt Invitational Results
ELLENSBURG, Wash. (Apr. 17) -- Kenyatta
Leonhardt sparked Seattle Pacific University's fifth straight
scored meet victory by winning two open events and running leg of
a first-place 400 relay at the Spike Arlt Invitational track and
field meet Saturday at Tomlinson Stadium.
Pole-vaulter Allie Hedges (So., Richland, Wa.)
and Leonhardt (Fr., Petaluma, Ca.) each became NCAA provisional
qualifiers as the Falcon women claimed seven events altogether and
finished 21 points in front of host Central Washington, 174-153.
The SPU men were 10th in the team standings, which were topped by
Highline Community College.
Leonhardt bolted to a national qualifying time
of 56.22 seconds in the 400-meter dash, crossing the finish line
some 20 meters in front of the next sprinter. Leonhardt anchored
the 400 relay, which ran a season-best time of 48.2, and was on
the 1600 relay which was second (3:54.93) to Central. She also won
her first collegiate long jump at 16 feet, 5 inches.
Hedges virtually assured herself a spot at
nationals by clearing 12-1 3/4a career-best clearance by 8
inches. It was her fifth win in six meets. The Falcons' Amy Harris
(So., Philomath, Or.) was second with a PR of 11-6. Also notching
her fifth victory of the season was Sara Johnson (Jr., Kennewick,
Wa.) in the javelin, with a throw of 135-8.
On the track, Karen Dickson (Fr., El Dorado
Hills, Ca.), running much of the 5000 by herself, won by 59
seconds in 18:00.16. Kelsey Gleason (So., Salem, Or.) got the win
in the 400 hurdles in 1:04.75, just ahead of teammate Janna
Schaafsma (So., Soldotna, Ak.).
Dianna Grossglass (So., LaConner, Wa.) took
second place in a pair of events, clocking a career-best 15.20
seconds in the 100 hurdles and high-jumping 5-3, the same height
cleared by the winner. Victoria Perkins (Fr., Kent, Wa./Kentwood)
was second in the 800 in a PR of 2:17.94. Lauren Kooy (Sr.,
Quincy, Wa.) was runner-up in the discus at 126-1.
Tim LeCount (Jr., Battle Ground, Wa.) and Micah
Kellcy (Sr., Lakewood, Wa./Clover Park) had the top placements
from the men. LeCount ran second in the 1500 in a season-best of
4:01.0 and Kellcy was third in the 400 hurdles in a season-best of
55.16.
Next week the Falcons will send four athletes
to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference multi-event meet
beginning Thursday in Monmouth, Ore., while many others go to the
Oregon Invitational in Eugene Saturday.
