SEATTLE (Apr. 15) Rachel Biornstad of
Kentlake High School in Kent, Wash., has signed a national letter
of intent to play volleyball at Seattle Pacific University.
Biornstad, a 6-foot middle, was a first team
all-Kingco selection last fall for Kentlake, which was 21-11. She
led the Falcons in kills, blocks, digs and service aces as a
senior. Kentlake won the state 4A title in 2001 and 2002, when
Bjornstad was a teammate of Shelby Gihring, who will be a
sophomore for Seattle Pacific next fall.
Biornstad also plays for the Kent Junior
Volleyball Club. A two-sport athlete, she also has lettered three
years in basketball at Kentlake.
Seattle Pacific head coach Kellie Ryan has
taken her teams to the NCAA Division II tournament two of the past
four seasons. Last fall, Ryan signed Alyssa Given of Notre Dame
High School in Salinas, Calif. The Falcons finished last season at
15-10. They return four starters in 2004.
